$20 Liberty Head "Double Eagle"

$20 Liberty Head "Double Eagle"

Minted from 1849 to 1907, the $20 Liberty Head Gold coin was the most popular and recognizable coin of its era. With a design by James B. Longacre, the obverse of the $20 liberty gold coin depicts Miss Liberty wearing a crown inscribed with the word LIBERTY.

She is circled by the coin's date, together with thirteen stars, which represent the original thirteen colonies. The reverse of the coin shows a bald eagle, fronted by a striped shield. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arch around the top of the coin.

Following the gold confiscation of 1933, the $20 liberty head became an extremely rare and valuable coin, with fewer in existence than St. Gaudens gold coins. $20 liberty head gold coins are now a non-reportable asset and as such are not at the mercy of an executive order recalling gold like that of 1933 due to their numismatic qualities.
