Produced between 1948 and 1963, the Franklin half dollar depicts its American namesake, Benjamin Franklin. Comprising of 90% silver and 10% copper, each coin weighs 12.5 grams and contains 0.36169 ounces of silver.
The front face depicts Benjamin Franklin; leading politician, writer, scientist, philosopher, printer and publisher, inventor, activist and diplomat. The reverse image features the Liberty Bell with a small eagle. The inclusion of this bird was deemed legally necessary as the national symbol of the U.S., although Franklin himself preferred the turkey, as a bird of greater nobility.
